Glyndŵr University

Formerly known as the North East Wales Institute of Higher Education (NEWI), Glyndŵr University was granted full university status in 2008 after being a member of the University of Wales since 2003. The University is named after the medieval Welsh prince Owain Glyndŵr, who first suggested the establishment of universities throughout Wales in the early 15th century.

Glyndŵr University runs 150 programmes, offering foundation, HND/Cs, honours and master's degrees and doctorates over a broad variety of qualifications. In addition to professional courses such as nursing and social work, Glyndŵr University offers a range of postgraduate and undergraduate qualifications in Art & Design, Engineering, Science, Humanities, Health and Social Care, Sports Sciences, Computing and Communication Technology and Business. Although all courses are offered in English there are options to study or to be assessed in the Welsh language. A foundation degree in Welsh Translation is also available.


Film Agency for Wales

The Film Agency for Wales is the sole Agency for film in Wales, with a remit to ensure that the economic, cultural and educational aspects of film are effectively represented in Wales, the UK and the world.

Established in July 2006 as a strategic agency, the Film Agency aims to facilitate the emergence of a viable and sustainable Welsh film industry and to promote a vibrant and dynamic film culture.

National Assembly for Wales

The corporate body for the National Assembly for Wales is known as the Assembly Commission. The Commission is responsible for ensuring the property, staff and services are provided for the Assembly. The Assembly Commission consists of the Presiding Officer and four Members from different Political parties, who each have different portfolios of work. The Commission is supported by staff in the Corporate Unit.

Wrexham Library

The newly refurbished Wrexham Library is an exciting cultural venue and home to the first BFI Mediatheque in Wales. It offers an extensive collection of fiction and non-fiction books for both adults and children (including large print books and audio books), multi-media resources, free computer access, a new community art gallery, a new study and learning centre, wi-fi throughout the building, as well as the new BFI Mediatheque. Wrexham Library’s BFI Mediatheque offers nearly 2000 complete films and TV programmes dating back to the 1890s, including more than 100 from Wales. It is open six days a week and is free for everyone to enjoy. The library is conveniently located in the busy town centre of Wrexham. It is across the road from the town’s main bus station and has an adjacent car park. The library building also houses an art gallery and popular coffee shop.

Bafta Cymru

BAFTA is the UK’s foremost charity working with the leading lights in film, television and new media. BAFTA Cymru was set up as a branch of BAFTA some twenty years ago and established to ensure that the values and reach of BAFTA and its operations extended to creative communities throughout the United Kingdom. The vision and the values of BAFTA Cymru operate under a common set of values and standards across the Academy as follows: “The British Academy of Film and Television Arts in Wales supports develops and promotes the art forms of the moving image, by identifying and rewarding excellence, inspiring practitioners and benefiting the public.” The BAFTA Cymru Awards Ceremony provides an independent platform that showcases the work that truly reflects the best of Wales and through our Learning and Events we facilitate the exchange of knowledge and expertise within Wales’ film, television and new media industries. Our events allow them to share the secrets of their success with their peers, the public and with those who are pursuing careers in the industry.

British Film Institute

Academi

The Academi is the Welsh National Literature Promotion Agency and Society for Authors.

The Academi runs events, competitions (including the Cardiff International Poetry Competition), conferences, international exchanges, events for schools, lectures and festivals. Academi is also responsible for the National Poet of Wales project and the Encyclopaedia of Wales.

The Academi works with the support of the Arts Council of Wales and the Welsh Assembly Government.  Academi is pleased to be the recipient of an Arts Council of Wales Beacon Company Award 2008 - 2010.
