Sherlock
is a 21st century spin on Arthur Conan Doyle’s classic detective stories starring Benedict Cumberbatch (Atonement) as Holmes and Martin Freeman (The Office, Hot Fuzz) as Dr. Watson. Writer Steven Moffat (Doctor Who) and series Producer Sue Vertue will discuss the challenging process of adapting a national treasure into a fast paced and thrilling modern day re-incarnation for the small screen.

Sue Vertue started her working life as a Production Manager in the commercials world before joining Tiger Television in 1989. She began producing in 1991 and her credits whilst there include Mr Bean; The Vicar of Dibley; Hospital and Gimmie, Gimmie, Gimmie. Sue left Tiger Aspect at the end of 1998 to produce COMIC RELIEF 1999 for the BBC (British Comedy Awards winner). This six hour live show broke all records for the amount of money raised on the night. In April 1999 Sue joined her mother Beryl Vertue’s company Hartswood Films where she produced two more series of Gimmie, Gimmie, Gimmie.

Sue produced several new comedy series, including four series of Coupling for BBC2, created and written by Steven Moffat (winner of the Silver Rose of Montreux), Fear, Street & Anger for BBC2, Carrie & Barry for BBC1 and The Savages for BBC1, both written by Simon Nye, The Cup for BBC2 and the major drama series Sherlock for BBC1 created by Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss, starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman as Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson.

Steven Moffat is one of Britain’s most eminent television writers.

His two-part story The Empty Child and The Doctor Dances for series 1 of BBC ONE’s revival of Doctor Who (starring Christopher Eccleston and Billie Piper) won him much acclaim, including the award for Television Moment of the Year and the first of three HUGO Awards. He then wrote The Girl in the Fireplace for series 2, with David Tennant as the Doctor, Blink for series 3 and the two part Silence in the Library for Doctor Who series 4. He has recently taken over the role of Executive Producer and Chief Writer for Doctor Who.

Steven has written the feature screenplay Tintin, commissioned by Steven Spielberg via his company Dreamworks SKG.
Sherlock, a contemporary take on the Arthur Conan Doyle classic written by Steven Moffat and created by Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss for Hartswood Films, was produced by Sue Vertue for BBC1.

Steven wrote and was an Executive Producer of Jekyll, a six part comedic thriller starring James Nesbitt made by Hartswood Films, which has so far sold to over 27 territories. As creator/writer of the cult BBC2 sitcom Coupling, Steven wrote 28 episodes over 4 series, winning the Silver Rose of Montreux 2001 and the award for Best TV Comedy at the British Comedy Awards in December 2003. Coupling was produced by Sue Vertue for Hartswood Films.

Steven’s first television work was as creator and writer of all 43 episodes over 5 series of Press Gang, the story of a group of wayward high school students who are given a local newspaper to run, which won BAFTA and Royal Television Society Awards for Best Children’s Programme (and was nominated for two Writers’ Guild of Great Britain awards, 1 Prix Jeunesse and another BAFTA).

Steven is married to Sue Vertue and they have two young sons Joshua and Louis.
